This week has been a lot of fun and it is because we finally got to share our news with our close friends and family.
As I mentioned in my last blog, we wanted to wait until the ultrasound to share our news. On Thursday, the day of our ultrasound we told all of our immediate family. It took the entire day to get through to everyone, but we were able to get a hold of everyone.
Friday my friend Audrey came over to go for a bike ride with me. I asked her if she wanted to see a cool photo. I pulled out the ultrasound photos and she said "I KNEW IT!" I wasn't very private with my friends that Sean and I were trying to get pregnant. I think between giving up alcohol for Lent, "slacking" on my workouts, and not caring about my race results it was pretty obvious to my friends.
Friday evening Sean and I went down the street to visit our good friends Cindy and Steve and make smores in the fire pit with their kids. They had some other friends over too, so I waited to share after they left. I pulled out the photos and Cindy was super excited. Savannah, her 6 year old daughter asked what it was a picture of. I asked her what she thought it was, and she said "A Baby!" Of course than she wanted to wake her 5 year old brother up to share the news, it was after 11 so we said no we'd show him another time. She than proceeded to scream throughout the neighborhood "Tricia's having a baby!" It didn't stop there she than pulled the "How did the baby get in their?" question and Cindy and Steve had to definitely think on their toes.
Saturday evening was Dan's coming home from Germany party, we would be seeing a bunch of our friends and we were looking forward to sharing with all of them as well. As soon as I walked into the party I made the mistake of holding a can of soda. Janelle was suspicious especially since Lent was over, so I pulled her into the other room and showed her the photos. She had the same reaction as Audrey and was excited for us as well. I let Sean share the news with Jonathan (Audrey's Husband) and Dan (Janelle's Fiance) and than once Jami and Ryan arrived we pulled the photos out once again. It was so much fun sharing the news, and hearing how everyone had known or had predicted based on how I had been acting the last few weeks.
Sunday Sean went for a bike ride with Sonny and shared the news with him, while I went shopping with his wife Suzy and shared the news with her. If you remember, Suzy had asked me after the Smithfield Triathlon if I had been pregnant. Her birthday is October 16th so she's already told us if the baby is a girl and born on her birthday we have to name her Suzy. Although Sean and I haven't really discussed names we have briefly in the past discussed a girls name we both like, so we had to let her know that unfortunately the baby is probably not going to be named Suzy. She still decided that she's going to call my baby "baby Suzy" in the meantime.
Sunday afternoon I finally got a hold of Kerry and shared the news over the phone with her. I told her she was going to have a new niece or nephew. She was very excited, and of course I had to share with her that she was the one I was on the phone with when I went out and bought the digital pregnancy test, to prove to Sean that the other test was in fact accurate.
Wednesday I had dinner with Emily and JoJo met us for dessert. I pulled the photo out to share the news with them and they were both really excited as well. Emily told me she really likes babies!
I know this baby of ours is going to be loved quite a bit with all of our friends and families. Almost none of our friends have kids, and no one has a baby so hopefully this pregnancy and baby will be fun for everyone. It's been great getting in touch and seeing all my friends this week. With our busy life we don't always have time to see everyone, and it was nice to make the time.
Friday on my way home from work I decided to give my Aunt Valerie a call. Uncle George answered the phone and since Aunt Valerie wasn't home we talked and caught up for well over an hour. He asked if I was calling to tell them I was pregnant. I said no and that I just wanted to see if they would be around for the 4th of July. I than asked what he would think if I was calling to say I was pregnant. He said he'd be really excited. So I said, yes we're pregnant. Once Valerie got home she got on the phone and I told her. She was so excited, and claims she is more excited than my mom, although my mom begs to differ.
Saturday morning I ran my first 5K of the season. I'll write a separate blog about the race itself. I wasn't sure how many people I was going to share the news with at the race. I spoke with my friend Janice before the race and she told me she was going to try and keep my shirt in her view, I told her she'd be in front of me today. She of course, said oh no, you run much faster than me. I told her, no really you will, I'm pregnant. She was surprised because I had never shared with her that we were trying and she was very excited. She said congrats to Sean and another one of our running friends Mike heard the news and he said congrats. He has 5 kids, but all of his our grown.
After the race I was talking to our friend Brian and he asked how the race went. I told him I felt good but since I was pregnant I had to keep it slow. He gave us our congrats as well.
Saturday afternoon Amanda picked me up so we could go visit Sharon in Norfolk, about an hour away. I hadn't seen Amanda in a month or so, and Sharon since possibly my wedding. I waited until we got to Sharon's house to share the news. Both girls said they knew because of my boobs. They are definitely getting larger and the shirt I was wearing apparently was more revealing than I thought. Amanda than shared that her fiance had mentioned something about my boobs being large the last time they were over, so I guess they are definitely out there.
I didn't realize this blog was going to be so long, but I guess I didn't realize how many good friends I wanted to share the news with. We are planning on sending an e-mail out to our families next weekend and I am going to let work know on the 26th, so that on my birthday, the 27th I can stop being sneaky and just let the entire world know my "secret."
