5K at 15 weeks

Last night I swear I was up at least every hour and a half peeing, it's getting ridiculous, although I'm fortunate that I am able to fall back asleep fairly quickly, but it's still an annoyance. Sean and I were up at 5:30 am to get ready for a 5K in Richmond, luckily I went to bed fairly early last night so 5:30 didn't seem super early.

We were running a charity 5K for a friend's former student's niece who is a cancer survivor. Try saying that 5 times fast. The weather was mid 50's with an 85% chance of rain...ugh!

We got to the race around 7:45 and had plenty of time to check in use the bathroom, change, use the bathroom again and get to the start. I wanted to go a third time but there wasn't time. So I started the race, at 8:30, with a full bladder, and kept hoping there would be a stray port-a-potty on the course.

The course wasn't very exciting we literally ran around a mall parking lot. Half of the roads were blocked off so we didn't have to worry about traffic, which was nice. There were surprisingly more hills than I expected. They weren't bad, but any sort of incline and my heart rate whould shoot up, so I had to keep slowing down. I felt good, even though I had to weave in and out at the beginning. So many kids at the start that should have probably moved to the middle at the very least. The rain held off for the most part, it was spitting rain at the beginning but it wasn't a heavy downpour and stayed about the same for the entire run.

I started off much slower than last week, I think because of the atmosphere and probably because it wasn't my normal racing crowd, I didn't have a desire to race. Or maybe I learned from last week that I have to take it easy, and it's not so bad just enjoying the run.

My splits as always weren't very consistent, and they were much slower than last week, but I am happy with my results.

Mile 1: 8:42/152 BPM
Mile 2: 9:01/159 BPM
Mile 3: 9:20/160 BPM
last 1/10th: 7:55/169 BPM

Overall:
28:13 (1 minute slower than last week)
8:55/pace (30 sec/mile slower)
158/BPM (same as last week)

After the race we hung around and they had all sorts of carnival type food, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn etc. I tasted a little bit of everything, it was wonderful!

Jami got first overall and of course her prize was a gift certificate to the mall we just ran around, how appropriate! I showed her how I'm starting to show, and it's nice that it's starting to actually be noticeable.

I know, I know...pictures. I promise tomorrow. Tomorrow is the "official" 15 week date, and from then on out I will take one photo a week and post.

Since I drove to the race Sean drove home, so it was great to be able to sleep the entire way back. I came home, took a warm shower and now I'm being lazy on the couch. I think it's time to start breaking into the new books I got from mom.
