It's amazing what can happen in a few days. Three days ago I ran a 5K, official time of 27:13. This was by far my slowest 5K ever, but the run felt great and I was able to maintain a great pace. Fast forward to today, I hadn't run since Saturday because I was lazy yesterday, so I was excited to get a good run in tonight.
I knew from the beginning it wasn't going to be a good run, I felt sluggish right from the beginning and found myself alternating between walking and running, which I have never done before unless I was injured. I thought about just turning around and doing 2 miles, but I figured it was a nice night out and the worse that could happen would be to walk 3.5 miles. I ended up completing the 3.5 mile route at a little over an 11 min/mile pace, running about 2/3 and walking a 1/3, this is my unscientific calculation.
I was glad to get the exercise, but amazed at how different my body felt from just a few days ago. Luckily I didn't mind taking the walking breaks, and I tried to make a game out of it, by telling myself I'd start running again when I got to the next street, and than I would run until I felt tired again.
I'm "racing" another 5K on Saturday, so I'm curious to see how I'll feel during this race. I have to take tomorrow off due to a meeting Sean and I are going to, so it'll be Thursday before I attempt another run. Fingers crossed that this is just a fluke, and that my running isn't going to be turned to walking this quickly.
I feel like I'm definitely larger today, even compared to just a few days ago. I really need to start taking some pictures, so I can remember the transition.
