Week 17 update

I went to the doctor's office on Friday for all the boring stuff, weight, urinalysis, and blood pressure. I have gained about 12 lbs which is crazy, but the doctor says I'm right on track, and that I should be gaining about 3/4 lb per week. I just hope that doesn't increase in the coming weeks. I have too many people that have told me horror stories about gaining 60+ lbs during their pregnancy, and it freaks me out. The average weight gain for a woman of normal weight is 25-35 lbs, and I hope to be able to stay within that range.

The doctor asked if I had felt any movement of the baby, and I told him no not yet. He said I should be feeling something any day, and the average is around 18 weeks, but some people don't feel the baby until 22 weeks.

He than had me lay down on the table and used a doppler to hear the baby's heartbeat. I didn't know we were going to do this! The heartbeat sounded really cool, and was about 155, which was good, average is between 120-160. He said sometimes when he uses the doppler the mother can feel movement, and sure enough as he was pressing down I felt one fast little kick. It was the coolest feeling ever! Unfortunately I haven't felt it since, but they say sometimes it's a few weeks before you feel something again. I don't think it's until 24 weeks where you are supposed to feel something everyday.

This pregnancy is going by so fast, I am almost at 20 weeks, the half way point!

I also got blood work done to check my thyroid and see if the medicine they have me on is helping regulate the hypothyroidism.

The doctor set up my next appointment for June 1st which will be the "big" ultrasound where they check all the organs and we get to see our baby again! It is only about 3 weeks away, so I'm sure it'll go by really quick.

I met with a different doctor this time. At my OB/GYN each appointment is with a different doctor so that when you go into labor you are familiar and comfortable with the team, because you could end up with any of them.

I talked to the doctor about my running, and he reconfirmed how good running, biking and swimming are for me. I told him about my upcominig triathlons and he had no concern at all. He just said that it was great that I was doing this and that it was very healthy...yay!

It wouldn't be a weekly update without photos. Below are my photos. I think the biggest difference is the photo of the front of my stomach, with my shirt up. My stomach is definitely getting rounder and larger....no stopping it now.

I was going to do some exercise this weekend but that didn't happen. It was a lazy weekend. Back on track tomorrow though, especially with the triathlon in 2 weeks. I think with our busy schedules a lazy weekend was definitely needed.
