Exercise update 6/16-6/22

Running is definitely getting harder and I am definitely getting slower. My body is still letting me exercise but I'm noticing that my heart rate is a little higher than it used to be even when I am running the same loop and I am running much slower. I don't feel exerted and I still can carry a conversation when I am running, so I'm not concerned, but it is something I want to keep an eye on and make sure it doesn't get too high.

This baby, that I love, is taking over my body. I'm fine with going slower, and fine with the fact that I'm exercising less, I just want to do whatever I can so I can have a healthy pregnancy and as easy as a birth as possible.

Run
Distance: 4.00 miles
Time: 44:44 minutes
Pace: 11:10/mile
Avg HR: 145/BPM
Max HR: 166/BPM

Wednesday was interval day. I got to intervals a little earlier so I was able to get 4 miles in. This was the most I had run in a long time, so I was excited about this. It was really hot out and this is never good when you're trying to run. It doesn't help that we've been having temperatures in the mid to high 90's every day. I stay hydrated and felt good. I am now running at slower than an 11:00/mile pace, who knew you could even run this slow?

Icelandic Seafood 8K
Run
Distance: 5.03 miles
Time: 57:30 minutes
Pace: 11:26/mile
Avg HR: 163
Max HR: 186

I was really excited to race this 8K and a little nervous especially since I hadn't run 5 miles since the half marathon I ran back at 10 weeks (over 3 months ago!).

Before the race we got someone to take our photo. Audrey and Ali came with us. It was so much fun seeing the two of them.

Sean, me and Ali....sporting my pregnancy racing shirt, of course!

Audrey thought it would be funny to take this photo of me putting on my glide. What can I say my thighs rubbed together even before I was pregnant. It's a good shot of the back of my racing shirt though.

This was an evening race and temperatures were still in the low 90's high 80's. We hydrated and carbo loaded during the day so I was ready. I think I ended up using the port-a-potty at least 4 times before the race started, and even then I still felt like I had to pee. I just decided to hold it, even though I did see one port-a-potty during the race. It was like a mirage to this pregnant lady. Unfortunately it was only near the beginning of the race, and I didn't have to pee until I passed the damn toilet.

I was glad that there were 3 water stops during the race. With temperatures like they were I NEEDED the water. Of course it was just my luck that at the 2nd water stop they were out of water when I got there. I was beyond annoyed since I was very much looking forward to this water. I passed the 2nd water stop again about 30 seconds later (there was a turn around right after the water) and on my way back I saw there were half full water bottles on the table. I asked/demanded that I have one of "those" water bottles. I'm sure someone else had drank half, but I seriously didn't care. Also, about 100 meters away was a guy on a 4-wheeler bringing more water. I basically ran him over to get another full water bottle. I drank half and poured the other half on my head.

I felt fairly good throughout the entire race. I had to walk shortly at the beginning because of my round ligament pain but luckily that didn't last long and I was able to run at a comfortably slow pace for the remainder of the run. I did walk through the water stops so I could make sure I hydrated myself.

I had a few people comment on my pregnancy during the race, nothing like bringing extra attention to yourself with a shirt that screams "I'm pregnant."

Overall it was a very fun race and I was excited to add another race to my pregnancy log, race #9 since pregnant!

Swim
Distance: 750 meters
Time: 17:37 minutes

I hadn't been in the pool in awhile, and even though I've been swimming in the James River I wanted to get a pool swim in so I knew exactly how far I was swimming. I have another triathlon, Baby Murphy's 3rd tri on Sunday and I want to make sure I'm as prepared as possible. The swim was slow, and my arms were tired at first but as I continued to swim I felt stronger and more confident.

I'm glad I am still getting at least some exercise each week, even if it's less than I would like. My body is definitely feeling pregnant and I am now tiring a lot easier. My belly is starting to get in the way too. I no longer can bend over without the belly getting in the way, and when I get off the couch it's starting to be a bit of an effort.

Just this week I've started to feel a bit of pain in my pelvic region. If I have to pee it really bothers me, and getting up from bed or off the couch causes the pain as well. I'm not exactly sure what this is, but it seems like a muscle soreness and I'm sure another one of the body's fun changes it puts us pregnant woman through. I will bring it up with the doctor at my next visit to see if it's part of the round ligament pain or if it's something else.

All else seems to be going well. Weight gain seems to be right on track, I still weigh less than Sean but each of our weight is slowly creeping closer and closer together. I'm sure it'll be less than a month before we meet together.

In other baby news we go to Vermont next weekend for a long holiday weekend. It will be great to see everyone since we haven't seen anyyone since we announced the pregnancy. My mom is throwing us a baby shower next Saturday. I'm really excited about this. It will definitely be a fun gathering where I can see everyone at once and also talk lots about the baby!

Two weeks until the next doctor's appointment and follow-up ultrasound! I can't wait to see our baby again. Let's hope s/he cooperates so we can get some better photos. We have our appointment the day after we return from Vermont, so lots of fun times ahead.

Updates to follow as they happen.
