Sweet Potatoes = SUCCESS!

Yesterday Kieran had his first taste of REAL food. Up until now he's only had breast milk and rice cereal. I tasted the rice cereal and it is blander than the breast milk so I was anxious to see how Kieran would take a little flavor.

First bite

Ok Mom, can I have some more

Seriously, hurry that stuff up

I love sweet potatoes, thanks Mom!

I'm so glad that we have technology and I can capture his first experience with food on video.

Just give me the spoon mom, I can take it from here

Another video clip later in his feeding.

Kieran did so well with the sweet potatoes, and even at the beginning when they were a little thick. I was giving him the potatoes without thinning since I didn't really know what I was doing. I was also putting way too much on the spoon and the mess you see is mostly because of me. He didn't spit any of the potatoes out which was good. Every so often he'd grab the spoon and of course get the potatoes on his hands. Once he had them on his hands the mess escalated.

I thawed a one ounce portion of potatoes and had about an ounce of milk that I ended up throwing into the potatoes to thin it. We probably got through about half before we got this look. He was raising his hands and obviously didn't want anymore.

Seriously mom, I'm done....get me out!

Bath please...I don't want this on me anymore

Sean and I watched him and we were wondering why he seemed to be straining so much. I know some babies develop allergies but he obviously looked uncomfortable and Sean thought his face was turning red.

*****TMI Alert*****

Once we got him out of the high chair he instantly looked relieved and than of course that's when we heard the explosion. No one ever wants to sit in their own sh*t and Kieran knew what was coming. Lucky for him he was getting a bath anyway due to the fact that he was covered in sweet potatoes and now something even more unpleasant.
