7 months

Wow 7 months! I know every month I'll probably continue to say the same thing, but seriously where has the time go. My little guy (although little in comparison to others his age) is not so little anymore. As of Monday Kieran is 15 lb 7.8 ounces. Luckily my body has gotten used to his weight gain and I'm able to hold him without a problem, but I think my family's arms are going to tire pretty fast trying to hold him when we see them at the end of the month.

We decided to go ahead and start rice cereal last Saturday, a week before he turned 7 months. It was a huge success! It was definitely fun to start having him eat even if the cereal tastes like NOTHING. Sean and I both tried it and it really has no flavor. He seems to love eating from a spoon though. I've been giving him about a teaspoon of rice each day mixed with about 1/3-1/2 ounce of breast milk each day. It's not very much at all, but he doesn't NEED this and it's only for practice. Most days he doesn't even finish the little bit I prepare, I'm assuming because he's probably not hungry, although we'll see if this changes when we start introducing real food with flavor. Right now the most important thing for him is to continue getting enough milk. The milk is where his real nutrients are.

We are going to wait on real food until his adjusted 6 month age which is this weekend. I am planning on preparing most of the food for Kieran and I'm excited to let him experience new flavors. I am however not excited about the convenience of it all. Right now I "carry" all of his food in my body. No prep needed. As he starts to eat I have to plan ahead, hopefully making food a few weeks in advance and also choosing foods that travel well when we'll be out of town.

I hope I'm able to be as good with making his food as I would like. I just can't imagine spending $1 a jar for the store bought food, or however much it cost. Plus by making it myself I know exactly how it is prepared and what is in it.

Kieran is still struggling with rolling consistently. He can do it every few days, but not every day and usually he gets pissed and just doesn't try. He has yet to roll from back to belly although just yesterday he started kicking his feet looking like he's attempting to try. We'll see, although it looks like it could still be awhile.

Sitting is another activity we're working on. I've gotten him to sit for a few seconds, even long enough to take a picture. He's VERY wobbly though so I wouldn't leave him. He seems to do a lot better if you put a toy in front of him so he can reach.

He can also stand independently for a few seconds if he has something to hold on to. I think he held on long enough for me to take the picture really quick.

Just a few days ago he started making a few new noises. He screeches a lot now which is kind of funny and makes me laugh. He loves talking to himself and seems to amuse himself.

Sleeping is touch and go. We've had a few really bad nights lately and than a few average nights. He no longer sleeps like he used to back around 5 months or so. What I would give to go back to the days where he was waking once or twice a night. I started doing a dream feed around 9:15-9:30 before going to bed. This has helped a little, but he still is getting up at 12ish, 3, 5 and than 7. The last two nights though the 5:00 wake-up was because his diaper leaked. I think it's time to move up a size for night time. We'll see if this makes a difference at all.

Bath time is still Kieran's favorite part of the day. We've been doing a bottle of breast milk at 6:30-7ish and Kieran usually isn't very interested. He drinks enough to satisfy himself and that gets fussy. Fussy = I don't want to mess with this eating crap give me bath time. We know this because as soon as we lay him on our bed and start taking his clothes off sour puss becomes happiest boy in the world and the giggles and smiles return. His new favorite thing to do in the bathtub is steal the washcloth from us and try and eat it. Some days he doesn't get soap in his tub (we don't want to dry his skin out with too much soap) so on those days we let him eat the wash cloth (he gets his own clean one) but on soap days I really don't want him eating soap. Of course the poor kid doesn't understand and we have to make his bath time super fast so he doesn't get too frustrated.

  1. Love that little guy. He is growing up so fast. I can't wait to see him in about 2 weeks.
