I ran 6.25 miles tonight and for the most part it felt pretty good.
The last few times I've gone running I feel like I haven't had the support I've needed in my chest, so I decided to wear two sports bras. I thought it would be uncomfortable, but honestly it didn't feel any different.
I set up my heart rate monitor and I started off not knowing how far or how long I was going to run. Sean ran with me, but was only going to run 3.5 so we only ran together the first 1.75 miles.
The first few steps I had slight ankle pain. Not sure what this was from, except maybe when I slack from training my ankles start to get weak. I just took it slow and the pain went away. I felt really good with no symptoms until about 3 miles. Around 3 miles I felt like I had to use the bathroom in the worse way possible. I seriously thought I was going to crap my pants. I still had over 3 miles to go so not much I could do but trudge along.
I was able to keep my heart rate between 140-160 and actually it was mostly under 150 so I was pretty happy with that.
A little further into the run I did get a few cramps that felt like menstrual cramps. I haven't had cramps since I've been pregnant, and even before I was pregnant I rarely have cramps. I know it's common so I wasn't too worried, but it wasn't very comfortable.
At a little over 5 miles I got a severe side stitch. I had to slow my pace down to a very slow jog. I kept running, but the pain was pretty bad. I've only gotten this pain running a few times, the last at the VIFL 14K. Not really sure the reasoning for it, but I've heard if you talk through them it helps it go away since the pain is near my diaphragm. The pain lasted about a quarter mile and than I was able to finish my run at a normal pace.
So with just a few detours I had my longest run since the VIFL 14K. It's still only 6.25 miles, and I really should be up around 10-12 before a half, but I'm still happy because it felt good. These last few runs I've had, today and Saturday's run, are proving to me that running doesn't have to be hard during pregnancy.
I know it's going to change significantly as I start to gain weight, but I'm glad that my body is feeling good, and I'm excited to "race" in a week and a half.
