For pears, and any other fruit or vegetable with thin skin it's recommended to buy organic. Unfortunately Trader Joe's only had regular pears, so I didn't buy organic this time but definitely will in the future. If I wasn't in a rush I would have shopped around until I found organic. Next time I'll go to a bigger grocery store with more selection.
I bought two pears as a start and made sure to wash the skin as best I could.
After washing I peeled the skin off.
I than cubed the pear making sure not to include the core.
If the pear is soft enough you can simply puree from here, but I added a little bit of water and steamed for 3 minutes in the microwave.
Steaming made the pears very soft. I opted to use the Magic Bullet this go around.
First I put in just the pears, but than put in the tiny bit of water I steamed them in as well.
I love how easy the Magic Bullet is.
After pureeing I used my 1 ounce containers. 2 pears made 8 servings.
After Kieran's nap I was really excited for him to try pear. Although wouldn't you know it, he was not as excited as I was hoping he would be. I'm hoping it was just that he ate to much breast milk and his belly was full. He had gone 5 hours between feedings because of a very long nap, so by the time he ate I think my body had more milk than he was used to consuming. No worries though, breast milk comes first!
He still enjoyed the pears, but he could have taken them either way. That's ok though, because I just ate what he didn't.
