This morning I had my 28 week doctor's appointment. Prior to going into the doctors I had to eat a low sugar breakfast (they suggested eggs) and than I had to drink this orange sugary drink that they had given me at my last visit (30 min before my appointment). I had heard horror stories about the taste of this mystery orange drink, but I thought it actually tasted pretty good. It tasted sort of like Sunkist orange soda.
The drink is standard around 28 weeks. They draw blood about an hour after you drink it and test your sugar level to see if you have gestational diabetes. If you fail this test you are given a second test which is much lengthier and I think lasts 3 hours where they draw blood at various time intervals. Fingers crossed that I pass this test the first time around.
At the doctors I did the standard stuff, pee in a cup, blood pressure and weight. I have now gained 24 lbs. The doctor said most people gain about 21 but as long as I keep the average per week under 1 lb than I'll be fine. This last month I have definitely started to get lazy and I'm not exercising as much therefore I think this is the reasoning for the higher weight gain.
The doctor checked the fetal heart rate it was 148 BPM. The last two visits it has been 150 and 147, so not much of a change for heart rate. I was then measured from pelvic bone to top of uterus, which is now basically at my rib cage. I am 29 cm, which is right on track. They say it should grow a cm a week and basically follow along with how many weeks pregnant you are.
I then got my first internal exam, where the doctor basically stuck his hand inside me to check my cervix...I guess I can't be shy now. The cervix is closed, which is what we want. Although I'm excited to meet my baby, I do not want to meet him/her yet, plus we aren't even close to being ready at our house.
I then got my blood draw to test for gestational diabetes. They also drew blood to test my thyroid levels as well. At the last visit the doctor increased my medication for my hypothyroidism so let's hope the new medication is dead on!
The plan for the next few weeks is to decide on furniture for the nursery and also paint colors for the wall so we can start getting the nursery together.
Time is going quickly, and I'm starting to get more and more tired so I better do what I can now, before I lose all motivation.
